Diagnosis Experience:
Caroline was diagnosed in April 2008. We were sent from our superb Pediatrician, Dr. Jessica
Pepitone, to the ER. Caroline had a droopy eye and swollen gums on the same side of her face.
We are so very grateful that Dr. Pepitone is so proactive and such a child advocate. After
Caroline's biopsy, 2 days later, it was determined that Caroline had Rhabdomyosarcoma- Embryonal
type, stage 3. She started treatment immediately and we are forever grateful for her fast-acting
team of doctors/oncologists. After nine months of VAC chemo, along with Proton-Beam Radiation
at Mass General, Caroline is in remission. We have great Faith and an unrelenting group of
family and friends to support Caroline and all of us O'Neils. Caroline has the determination
of a champion and the spirit of a true hero. She is our Sweet Caroline and she continues to
teach us about strength and courage. She is the sunshine of our lives and her awesome brother
Jack has been right by her side! He is her biggest fan!
